QUALITATIVE V. QUANITITATIVE RESEARCH

Most design research is qualitative, not quantitative.

Qualitative research is (arguable) more subjective, based on smaller, targeted sample sizes, and is concerned more with how and why questions. Outcomes are generally interview recordings, pictures or data more open to interpretation.

Quantitative research, on the other hand, is ofter about large, random, statistically-significant sample sizes and is designed to answer what questions. Often produces numerical data that can be made into statistics and mathematical models.
